December 2009 License Changes

New rules for commercial gill net licensing and non-resident saltwater recreational hook-and-line licensing go into effect on December 1, 2009. The information below provides additional details.

Three new, no-cost fisheries management permits for gill nets will be available beginning 12/1/09. Two of these permits, 370 and 371, are limited entry permits so only licensees that have met specific criteria will be eligible for the permits. Along with these new permits are new restrictions on the number of gill nets licensees may purchase. Refer to the following link for more information: <Gill Net License Changes>.

370 CLASS A GILL NET PERMIT
371 NON-RES CLASS A GILL NET PERMIT
372 CLASS B GILL NET PERMIT


New non-resident licenses for recreational saltwater H&L fishing go into effect 12/1/09. The H&L licenses sold via the Commission's automated license system that are affected by this change are listed below:

801 NON-RES CHARTER BOAT 6 & UNDER
806 NON-RES CHARTER BOAT PASS > 6
813 NON-RES CLASS A FISHING GUIDE
814 NON-RES CLASS B FISHING GUIDE 
826 NON-RES BOAT RENTAL

New non-resident licenses for recreational saltwater H&L fishing licenses issued by the DGIF will be sold starting 12/1/09. This affects the Individual Saltwater Sport Fishing license, the Temporary 10-Day Saltwater Sport Fishing license, the Saltwater Boat Sport Fishing license, and the lifetime and disabled licenses. Please note that the non-resident Saltwater Boat Sport Fishing license will be available only to those non-residents whose boat is registered in Virginia. The prices of the Non-resident State Fresh/Saltwater Fishing and the Non-resident 5-day Fresh/Saltwater Fishing licenses will also be increased to $60.50 and $26.00 respectively.
