Public Notice: For noncommercial riparian shellfish growing November 1997

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given that the Virginia Marine Resources Commission will consider the following General Permit (VGP#3), 4VAC 20-336-10, ET. SEQ., for noncommercial riparian shellfish growing (i.e."Gardening") activities which conform to certain criteria and are undertaken over or on State-owned subaqueous lands in waters of the Commonwealth.

For the purposes of the proposed General Permit, riparian shellfish gardening is defined as the grow-out of native shellfish species in protective structures such as floats, bags, cages, etc. adjacent to a private, noncommercial pier or otherwise within a waterfront property owners's riparian area, exclusively for private, noncommercial purposes.

The Commission will consider the proposed General Permit and any other comments from individuals interested in this matter at a public hearing to be held at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 25, 1997.  The public hearing will be held in the main office of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission on the 4th floor at 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News beginning at 9:00 a.m.

A copy of the proposed General Permit may be reviewed at the Commission, Monday through Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Persons wishing to obtain a copy of the proposed General Permit may call the Commission at (757) 247-8031.
