Public Notice: 2014 POUND NET NOTICES

REGULATION 4 VAC 20-25-10 ET SEQ., PERTAINING TO POUND NET SITING PUBLIC INTEREST REVIEW" requires that there be an opportunity for public comment on new pound net locations that are requested for licensing by commercial fishermen.  The following notices are posted by date; the comment period for each specific notice ends approximately 30 days from the date posted on this web site.   Please check with The Fisheries Division at (757) 247-2248 to determine when a specific comment period ends.  Send comments/inquiries within 30 days of the date a notice is posted to:  Marine Resources Commission, Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

Note: 
There is a regulatory cap on the number of pound nets that are allowed in Chesapeake Bay and parts of Virginia's tidal rivers (REGULATION 4 VAC 20-600-10 ET SEQ, "LIMITS THE SALE OF POUND NET LICENSES").  The cap in the affected area is 161 pound nets.  Click on the pound net cap report to see if any nets are likely available; nets available under cap is dependent on licenses sold, licenses authorized for sale, and net locations advertised for public review and will change with time.  Use the pound net cap report as a guideline and consult with the Marine Police District Officer in your geographical area to decide whether to submit an application for a pound net license.  Use the following link to see locations of pound net license issued in the current calendar year:  Pound Net Map.

Note:  Notices below this point are beyond the 30 day comment period and are provided only as a reference of new pound net licensing activity.  Comments will not be accepted on the notices below.

October 30, 2014: Notice is hereby given that Lisa Bell of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate two pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The first proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 1 mile southeast of Cherrystone Channel Light 2C. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.4178 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.7012 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.5522 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.5199 Minutes W. The offshore end of the current approved pound net (EP0072) is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.0508 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.0906 Minutes W. The second proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 1 mile northeast of North Channel Buoy 18. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.0597 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.3720 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.1919 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.1882 Minutes W. The offshore end of the current approved pound net (EP0070) is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.9000 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.7400 Minutes W.

October 22, 2014: Notice is hereby given that Keith Like of Cape Charles, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 1,600 feet northeast of Cape Charles City Range A Rear Light. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees14.6975 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.4047 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees14.7400 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.1631 Minutes W. The offshore end of the current approved pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 14.7182 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.4694 Minutes W.

September 30, 2014: Notice is hereby given that Thomas Dale Gaskins of Reedville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be located to approximately 4,000 feet east-southeast of Owens Pond. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees50.7879 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees13.9707 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees50.7910 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees14.2200 Minutes W.

August 8, 2014: Notice is hereby given that Keith Like of Cape Charles, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 1,600 feet northeast of Cape Charles City Range A Rear Light. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees14.7182 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.4694 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees14.7819 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.2421 Minutes W. The offshore end of the current approved pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 14.6975 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.4047 Minutes W.

May 8, 2014: 
Notice is hereby given that Edward H. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 2,800 feet southeast of Cherrystone Channel Light 2C. The length of the net will be approximately 925 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees11.5840 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.3180 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees11.6710 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.1620 Minutes W.  The offshore end of the current approved pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 52.1100 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 41.7600 Minutes W.

May 8, 2014:  Notice is hereby given that Francis Dale Gaskins of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1 mile east-northeast of Gaskin Pond. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 51.683 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.461 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 51.763 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.681 Minutes W. 

May 8, 2014:  Notice is hereby given that Edward H. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 75 feet northeast of Cape Charles City Range B Front Light 8. The length of the net will be approximately 775 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 15.7347 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.6754 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 15.7632 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.5199 Minutes W. 

May 8, 2014: Notice is hereby given that Robert Moses of Poquoson, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Back River as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 300 feet west of entrance to Front Cove. The length of the net will be approximately 130 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.6142 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 19.1101 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.6122 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 19.1367 Minutes W. 

April 18, 2014:  Notice is hereby given that Curtis A. Heath Jr. of Townsend, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1.25 miles south-southwest of the mouth of The Gulf.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 21.3107 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.2384 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 21.1883 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.0450 Minutes W. 

April 18, 2014:  Notice is hereby given that Brandon Lee Simpson of Suffolk, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 3,750 feet southeast of Cherrystone Channel Light 2C.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. T he offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees11.4974 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees01.1474 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees11.5913 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees00.9299 Minutes W.  The offshore end of the current approved pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 06.7950 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 58.5934 Minutes W.
