Public Notice: 2011 PROTECTIVE SHELLFISH ENCLOSURE SITING NOTICES

REGULATION 4 VAC 20-1130-10 Et Seq. and Section 28.2-603.2 of the Code of Virginia provide an opportunity for public comment on proposals to place protective shellfish enclosures on leased ground.  The following notices are posted by date; the comment period for each notice is as is specified below for each individual siting notice.   Please check with The Fisheries Division at (757) 247-2248 to verify when a specific comment period ends.

Note: notices below this point are beyond the comment period and are provided only as a reference of shellfish enclosure siting activity. Comments will not be accepted on the notices below.

March 2, 2011:  Melville Enterprises, LLC, of Warsaw has notified the Virginia Marine Resources Commission of its intent to place up to 100 protective aquaculture structures for culturing oysters on one acre of leased ground, located in the Rappahannock River, near Neals Point. A complete copy of the proposal may be obtained from the Marine Resources Commission or reviewed on the agency’s website at this web link:   Melville Enterprises, LLC. February 28, 2011: 
Windmill Point Seafood Company, LLC of White Stone has notified the Virginia Marine Resources Commission of its intent to place up to 250 temporary protective aquaculture structures for culturing oysters on 14.14 acres of leased ground in Windmill Point Creek located off of Little Oyster Creek in Lancaster County and 500 structures on 37.69 acres of leased ground in Little Bay located off of Fleets Bay in Lancaster County.  A complete copy of the proposal may be obtained from the Marine Resources Commission or click on the following link:  Windmill Point Seafood.  Send comments/inquiries before April 3, 2011 to:  Marine Resources Commission, Fishery Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd floor, Newport News, VA 23607.
