Site Description:
The growout location is on the north shore of the entrance to Ragged Island Creek a tributary of the James River on lease number 818. The growout location is directly across the creek from the Emergency Management site. The growout site is on moderately hard bottom that is approximately 2 feet deep at mlw. The growout site is only exposed to east winds.

Deployment Method:
Oysters will be grown in bags laid on the bottom and attached together on a longline. The bags will be secured to the line with stainless steel longline clips. Each line will be anchored at each end. The bags will hold 150 oysters at final growout density and will be spaced approximately 3 feet apart. Each line will be 300 to 500 feet in length. The water is shallow enough to check the bags visually at low tide.

Emergency Management Plan:
This site is relatively secure from wind impacts. All bags will be picked up during any hurricane warning and carried back to a soft crab shedding facility. The bags will be placed in the shedding tanks until the storm danger has passed.

The longline bags should not be impacted by ice events.

Robbie Johnson will train employees in handling the oyster aquaculture system and will be responsible for implementing the Emergency Management Plan.
