RANDY OWEN

VIRGINIA MARINE RESOURCES COMMISSION


Randy has been with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission since 1988. He worked in the Fisheries Management Division for two years before joining the Habitat Management Division in 1990.

He earned his Bachelor's (1982) and Master's Degree (1987) in Biology from Old Dominion University (ODU). While there, Randy worked for the Applied Marine Research Laboratory from 1981 to 1985.

VMRC's Habitat Management Division is charged with the agency's administration of a regulatory program governing State-owned submerged lands, tidal wetlands, beaches and coastal primary sand dunes. He and his staff handle constituent requests for piers, docks, marinas, channel dredging, and the development of tidal wetlands, beaches and coastal primary sand dunes.

Randy grew up in Pittsylvania County before matriculating to ODU in 1979. He is married with one son who currently lives and works in the City of Prague in the Czech Republic. His wife, Marie', works as a Customer Service Manager for American Airlines at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport.
