Public Notice: POUND NET NOTICES

REGULATION 4 VAC 20-25-10 ET SEQ., PERTAINING TO POUND NET SITING PUBLIC INTEREST REVIEW" requires that there be an opportunity for public comment on new pound net locations that are requested for licensing by commercial fishermen.  The following notices are posted by date; the comment period for each specific notice ends approximately 30 days from the date posted on this web site.   Please check with The Fisheries Division at (757) 247-2248 to determine when a specific comment period ends.  Send comments/inquiries within 30 days of the date a notice is posted to:  Marine Resources Commission, Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

Note: 
There is a regulatory cap on the number of pound nets that are allowed in Chesapeake Bay and parts of Virginia's tidal rivers (REGULATION 4 VAC 20-600-10 ET SEQ, "LIMITS THE SALE OF POUND NET LICENSES").  The cap in the affected area is 161 pound nets.  Click on the pound net cap report to see if any nets are likely available; nets available under cap is dependent on licenses sold, licenses authorized for sale, and net locations advertised for public review and will change with time.  Use the pound net cap report as a guideline and consult with the Marine Police District Officer in your geographical area to decide whether to submit an application for a pound net license.

Note:  Notices below this point are beyond the 30 day comment period and are provided only as a reference of new pound net licensing activity.  Comments will not be accepted on the notices below.

December 25, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Thomas D. Gaskins of Reedville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 1 mile southeast of the Little Wicomico River Approach Light 2LW. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 52.5142 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.1710 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees52.4998 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.4196 Minutes W. The current approved pound net (NP0166) location is approximately 1,300 yards east-southeast of the Owens Pond. The offshore end of the current approved pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 50.7879 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 13.9707 Minutes W.

December 24, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Clifton W. Burton of Colonial Beach, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in Upper Machodoc Creek as follows: The proposed net is to be located approximately 620 yards south of the Upper Machodoc Creek Dahlgren Channel Range Rear Light. The length of the net will be approximately 540 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 38 Degrees18.675 Minutes N and Longitude 77 Degrees 02.366 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 38 Degrees18.587 Minutes N and Longitude 77 Degrees 02.350 Minutes W.

December 20, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Lisa Bell of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate two pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The first proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 4,800 feet northwest of Kiptopeke State Park. The length of the net will be approximately 1,115 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.6800 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.9400 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.7700 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.7400 Minutes W. The current approved pound net (EP0074) location is 2,800 feet southeast of Cherrystone Channel Light 2C. The offshore end of the pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.5840 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.3180 Minutes W. The second proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 3,470 feet northwest of Kiptopeke State Park. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.4843 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.8275 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.5812 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.6121 Minutes W. The current approved pound net (EP0073) location is 3,500 feet north of North Channel Buoy 18. The offshore end of the pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.2340 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 01.3500 Minutes W.

December 20, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Arthur P. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be located approximately 900 feet north-northwest of the Concrete Ships. The length of the net will be approximately 780 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.3352 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.6522 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.3845 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 59.5036 Minutes W.

May 31, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Edward Mark Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay, as follows:  The proposed net (EP0088) is to be located 3,300 feet east-southeast of Old Plantation Flats Flashing Red Marker #2.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.9685 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.8705 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 12.0505 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.6455 Minutes W. 

May 16, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Eric Christian Weller of Virginia Beach, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 7,200 feet north of the Hole in the Wall.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 29.3175 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees15.5806 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 29.2833 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 15.8250 Minutes W. 

May 9, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Kyle J. Gaskins of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 3,800 feet east of Owens Pond.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. May 9, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Francis Dale Gaskins of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 2,400 feet east of Owens Pond.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 50.7922 and Longitude 76 Degrees 14.2720 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 50.8117 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 14.5201 Minutes W. 

April 25, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Adam W. Crockett of Irvington, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net (NP169) is to be located approximately 900 feet west of Indian Creek Entrance Buoy #2. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 40.2929 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 18.3508 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 40.4736 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 18.2495 Minutes W. 

April 12, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Elizabeth A. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1,900 feet west of the Chesapeake Bay overlook at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge). The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 07.2510 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees58.8289 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 07.2662 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.5827 Minutes W.  The current approved net location is 1,400 feet west of the Chesapeake Bay overlook at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 07.2671 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.6349 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees07.2834 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.4645 Minutes W.  The pound net is 825 feet in length. 

April 12, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Edward M. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1,900 feet southwest of Picketts Harbor Road.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,100 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.8770 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees00.1410 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 10.9600 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees59.9400 Minutes W.  The current approved net location is 2,400 feet west of the Chesapeake Bay overlook at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 07.2510 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.8289 Minutes W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 07.2608 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.6691 Minutes W.  The pound net shall be approximately 780 feet in length. 

April 10, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Clifton W. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 38 Degrees 12.5436 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 8.2476 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 38 Degrees 12.4546 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 58.2826 Minutes W.

April 9, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Edward M. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate two pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The first proposed net (EP0083) is to be located approximately 2,700 feet southwest of Pelican Pub at Sunset Beach. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees08.000 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees58.9660 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees08.0264 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.7338 Minutes W.  The second proposed net (EP0085) is to be located approximately 2,800 feet south-southwest of Pelican Pub at Sunset Beach. The length of the net will be approximately 1,120 feet. Heath, Sr. of Townsend, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net (EP0089) is to be located approximately 2,100 feet northwest of Sunset Beach.  The length of the net will be approximately 880 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 8.4987 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.8114 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees 8.5207 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees 58.6323 Minutes W.  The current approved pound net (EP0061) location is 9,700 feet northwest of the boat ramp at Kiptopeke State Park.  The offshore end of the pound net is located at Latitude 37 Degrees 11.2664 Minutes N and Longitude 76 Degrees 00.6226 Minutes W.

April 2, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that James T. Scott Jr. of King George, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate two pound nets in the Rappahannock River as follows:  The first proposed net (NP176) is to be located along the eastern shore of Toby Minutes s Point, Rappahannock River Wildlife Refuge.  The length of the net will be approximately 823 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 38 Degrees08.933 Minutes N and Longitude 77 Degrees04.181 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 38 Degrees08.934 Minutes N and Longitude 77 Degrees04.314 Minutes W.  The second proposed net (NP177) is to be located along the southwestern shore of Toby Minutes s Point, Rappahannock River Wildlife Refuge.  The length of the net will be approximately 823 feet. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 420 feet northeast of the Concrete Ships near Kiptopeke State Park.  The length of the net will be approximately 705 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees10.2521 and Longitude 75 Degrees59.5946 Minutes W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 Degrees10.3027 Minutes N and Longitude 75 Degrees59.4630 Minutes W.   Withdrawn

Rose of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 11,276 feet southeast of the Great Wicomico Light. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.
