Public Notice: POUND NET NOTICES

REGULATION 4 VAC 20-25-10 ET SEQ., PERTAINING TO POUND NET SITING PUBLIC INTEREST REVIEW" requires that there be an opportunity for public comment on new pound net locations that are requested for licensing by commercial fishermen.  The following notices are posted by date; the comment period for each specific notice ends approximately 30 days from the date posted on this web site.   Please check with The Fisheries Division at (757) 247-2248 to determine when a specific comment period ends.  Send comments/inquiries within 30 days of the date a notice is posted to:  Marine Resources Commission, Fisheries Management Division, 2600 Washington Avenue, 3rd Floor, Newport News, Virginia 23607.

Note: 
There is a regulatory cap on the number of pound nets that are allowed in Chesapeake Bay and parts of Virginia's tidal rivers (REGULATION 4 VAC 20-600-10 ET SEQ, "LIMITS THE SALE OF POUND NET LICENSES").  The cap in the affected area is 161 pound nets.  Click on the pound net cap report to see if any nets are likely available; nets available under cap is dependent on licenses sold, licenses authorized for sale, and net locations advertised for public review and will change with time.  Use the pound net cap report as a guideline and consult with the Marine Police District Officer in your geographical area to decide whether to submit an application for a pound net license.

Note:  Notices below this point are beyond the 30 day comment period and are provided only as a reference of new pound net licensing activity.  Comments will not be accepted on the notices below.

December 25, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Thomas D. Gaskins of Reedville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 1 mile southeast of the Little Wicomico River Approach Light 2LW. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3752.5142N and Longitude 7613.1710W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3752.4998N and Longitude 7613.4196W. The current approved pound net (NP0166) location is approximately 1,300 yards east-southeast of the Owens Pond. The offshore end of the current approved pound net is located at Latitude 37 50.7879N and Longitude 76 13.9707W.

December 24, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Clifton W. Burton of Colonial Beach, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in Upper Machodoc Creek as follows: The proposed net is to be located approximately 620 yards south of the Upper Machodoc Creek Dahlgren Channel Range Rear Light. The length of the net will be approximately 540 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3818.675N and Longitude 7702.366W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3818.587N and Longitude 7702.350W.

December 20, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Lisa Bell of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate two pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The first proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 4,800 feet northwest of Kiptopeke State Park. The length of the net will be approximately 1,115 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 10.6800N and Longitude 75 59.9400W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 10.7700N and Longitude 75 59.7400W. The current approved pound net (EP0074) location is 2,800 feet southeast of Cherrystone Channel Light 2C. The offshore end of the pound net is located at Latitude 37 11.5840N and Longitude 76 01.3180W. The second proposed net is to be relocated to approximately 3,470 feet northwest of Kiptopeke State Park. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 10.4843N and Longitude 75 59.8275W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 10.5812N and Longitude 75 59.6121W. The current approved pound net (EP0073) location is 3,500 feet north of North Channel Buoy 18. The offshore end of the pound net is located at Latitude 37 11.2340N and Longitude 76 01.3500W.

December 20, 2013: Notice is hereby given that Arthur P. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows: The proposed net is to be located approximately 900 feet north-northwest of the Concrete Ships. The length of the net will be approximately 780 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 10.3352N and Longitude 75 59.6522W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 10.3845N and Longitude 75 59.5036W.

May 31, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Edward Mark Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay, as follows:  The proposed net (EP0088) is to be located 3,300 feet east-southeast of Old Plantation Flats Flashing Red Marker #2.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3711.9685N and Longitude 7600.8705W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3712.0505N and Longitude 7600.6455W. 

May 16, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Eric Christian Weller of Virginia Beach, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 7,200 feet north of the Hole in the Wall.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3729.3175N and Longitude 7615.5806W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3729.2833N and Longitude 7615.8250W. 

May 9, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Kyle J. Gaskins of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 3,800 feet east of Owens Pond.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3750.7879 and Longitude 7613.9707W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3750.7910N and Longitude 7614.2200W. 

May 9, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Francis Dale Gaskins of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 2,400 feet east of Owens Pond.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3750.7922 and Longitude 7614.2720W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3750.8117N and Longitude 7614.5201W. 

April 25, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Adam W. Crockett of Irvington, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate a pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net (NP169) is to be located approximately 900 feet west of Indian Creek Entrance Buoy #2. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3740.2929N and Longitude 7618.3508W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3740.4736N and Longitude 7618.2495W. 

April 12, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Elizabeth A. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1,900 feet west of the Chesapeake Bay overlook at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge). The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3707.2510N and Longitude 7558.8289W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3707.2662N and Longitude 7558.5827W.  The current approved net location is 1,400 feet west of the Chesapeake Bay overlook at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 3707.2671N and Longitude 7558.6349W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 3707.2834N and Longitude 7558.4645W.  The pound net is 825 feet in length. 

April 12, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Edward M. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1,900 feet southwest of Picketts Harbor Road.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,100 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3710.8770N and Longitude 7600.1410W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3710.9600N and Longitude 7559.9400W.  The current approved net location is 2,400 feet west of the Chesapeake Bay overlook at the north end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 3707.2510N and Longitude 7558.8289W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 3707.2608N and Longitude 7558.6691W.  The pound net shall be approximately 780 feet in length. 

April 10, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Clifton W. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3812.5436N and Longitude 7658.2476W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3812.4546N and Longitude 7658.2826W.

April 9, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Edward M. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate two pound nets in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The first proposed net (EP0083) is to be located approximately 2,700 feet southwest of Pelican Pub at Sunset Beach. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3708.000N and Longitude 7558.9660W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3708.0264N and Longitude 7558.7338W.  The second proposed net (EP0085) is to be located approximately 2,800 feet south-southwest of Pelican Pub at Sunset Beach. The length of the net will be approximately 1,120 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3707.7672N and Longitude 7558.6505W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3707.8098N and Longitude 7558.4257W. 

April 6, 2013: 
Notice is hereby given that Kenneth T. Heath, Sr. of Townsend, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net (EP0089) is to be located approximately 2,100 feet northwest of Sunset Beach.  The length of the net will be approximately 880 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 8.4987N and Longitude 75 58.8114W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 37 8.5207N and Longitude 75 58.6323W.  The current approved pound net (EP0061) location is 9,700 feet northwest of the boat ramp at Kiptopeke State Park.  The offshore end of the pound net is located at Latitude 37 11.2664N and Longitude 76 00.6226W.

April 2, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that James T. Scott Jr. of King George, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate two pound nets in the Rappahannock River as follows:  The first proposed net (NP176) is to be located along the eastern shore of Tobys Point, Rappahannock River Wildlife Refuge.  The length of the net will be approximately 823 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3808.933N and Longitude 7704.181W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3808.934N and Longitude 7704.314W.  The second proposed net (NP177) is to be located along the southwestern shore of Tobys Point, Rappahannock River Wildlife Refuge.  The length of the net will be approximately 823 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3808.814N and Longitude 7704.749W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3808.906N and Longitude 7704.623W.

April 1, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that William R. Davenport III. of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Rappahannock River as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 1,100 feet southwest of Little Oyster Creek.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3736.8608N and Longitude 7618.7393W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3737.0585N and Longitude 7618.7397W. 

April 1, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that William R. Davenport Jr. of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 2,600 feet south of Indian Creek Entrance Buoy No. 2.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3739.7684N and Longitude 7618.4053W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3739.7660N and Longitude 7618.6540W. 

March 15, 2013:   Notice is hereby given that Edward Mark Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 360 feet south of the former Navy Dock on Fishermans Island, and 1,100 feet north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  The length of the net will be approximately 580 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3705.7690N and Longitude 7558.9940W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3705.7759N and Longitude 7558.8749W.  The current approved net location is 1,100 feet north of Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  The offshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 3705.7604N and Longitude 7558.9452W and the inshore end of the pound net is to be located at Latitude 3705.7759N and Longitude 7558.8749W.  The pound net shall be approximately 354 feet in length. 

March 15, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Arthur P. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and relocate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 3,190 feet southwest of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3706.5910N and Longitude 7559.0210W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3706.5223N and Longitude 7558.7895W.  The current approved net location is 3,100 feet southwest of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (Little Bridge).  The length of the net will be approximately 937 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3706.5630N and Longitude 7558.9290W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3706.5100N and Longitude 7558.7480W. 

March 15, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Arthur P. Bender of Cheriton, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 420 feet northeast of the Concrete Ships near Kiptopeke State Park.  The length of the net will be approximately 705 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3710.2521 and Longitude 7559.5946W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3710.3027N and Longitude 7559.4630W.   Withdrawn

March 14, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Lacy C. Rose Jr. of White Stone, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 13,650 feet southeast of the Great Wicomico Light.  The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet.  The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3746.0830 and Longitude 7615.3330W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3746.0830N and Longitude 7615.5820W. 

March 13, 2013:  Notice is hereby given that Shawn C. Rose of Heathsville, Virginia has applied to the Marine Resources Commission to license and locate one pound net in the Chesapeake Bay as follows:  The proposed net is to be located approximately 11,276 feet southeast of the Great Wicomico Light. The length of the net will be approximately 1,200 feet. The offshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3746.4850 and Longitude 7615.1050W and the inshore end of the net is to be located at Latitude 3746.4850N and Longitude 7615.3541W.
