Public Notice: Summer Flounder Fishery 2000

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission invites public comment on proposed amendments to Regulation 4 VAC 20-620-10 ET SEQ., "Pertaining to Summer Flounder." 

In accordance with §;28.2-209 of the Code of Virginia, a public hearing on the proposed amendments will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at the Marine Resources Commission, 2600 Washington Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. Written comments on the proposals should be mailed to Jack Travelstead, VMRC Fisheries Management Division, P. O. Box 756, Newport News, Virginia 23607.  Copies of the proposed amendments may be reviewed at the Commission Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and may be obtained by calling the Commission at (757) 247-2248.

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS FOR THE 2001 FIRST QUARTER OF THE DIRECTED OFFSHORE SUMMER FLOUNDER FISHERY:

1) Limit vessels to a cumulative possession limit of 10,000 pounds of Summer Flounder and a maximum of two landings in each consecutive 10-day period, beginning with the opening of the First Quarter.

2) Require dealers to call-in to the VMRC Operations Center and report the weight of Summer Flounder landed by a vessel, once offloading is complete and the weight of the catch determined. 

3) Open the First Quarter on the first Monday which follows January 1.
