Virginia has a variable possession limit for combined aggregated large coastal sharks and commercially permitted hammerhead sharks. Variable means the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) will change possession limits throughout the year, pass on those changes to Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), and the ASMFC will inform the Atlantic states what the modified possession limits are. Accordingly, the current commercial possession limits in Virginia for combined aggregated large coastal sharks and commercially permitted hammerhead sharks will be posted to this web page, and are currently:
