2006 VIRGINIA STATE FAIR

The VMRC received First Place at the 2006 Virginia State Fair for the Director's Choice Award. The VMRC display at the 2006 Virginia State Fair, held September 28th through October 8th in Richmond, Virginia, focused on educating the public on the marine resources and waterways of Virginia. The VMRC display included a Marine Patrol Boat, computer-based education quizzes for Elementary, Middle, and High School students on marine resources, two aquariums filled with various species from the Chesapeake Bay including blue crabs, oyster toadfish, and a hogchoker, and a touch-tank with horseshoe crabs. The touch-tank proved to be a big hit with many school groups as staff provided numerous hands-on education sessions about the life-history and management of horseshoe crabs. Thanks to all VMRC staff that made this an award winning display.
